本书简介与特色：

编者Iona Opie女士毕生致力于采撷、整理及研究英国的童谣和民间传说，被一致公认是这个领域的权威。绘者Rosemary Wells (1943-2012) 罗斯玛丽·威尔斯是一位非常有创意的儿童图画书作家及插画家，她创作了五十多本儿童图画书，屡获大奖，其中包括《兔子鲁比和麦克斯》与畅销书《小狗麦达夫》系列以及《艾米莉上学记》，她在图画书中塑造的角色Max、Ruby、Edward、Timothy深受大家喜爱。

鹅妈妈童谣(Mother Goose)讲的不是一只鹅的故事，也不是指某个人，它是游吟诗人猶在林间漫步的时代，即已流传在英国各地的儿歌童谣的总称。它独特的声音趣味入耳难忘，又容易吟诵，因此通过口耳相传传诵至今，已流行了二、三百年，总收录两千多首诗歌童谣，除了应景应时的内容之外，也可以拿来表示开心、表示怜爱、描写人生或者表达愿望等，它内容典雅，有幽默故事、游戏歌曲、儿歌、催眠曲、字母歌、数数歌、绕口令、动物歌等，也有一些内容滑稽甚或不知所云的荒诞歌和逗趣的猜谜歌。英国人称其为Nursery Rhymes【儿歌】，美国人称其为Mother Goose【鹅妈妈童谣】，在英美国家无人不知无人不晓。

本书内容格外丰富，声韵活泼，用字遣词自由生动，内容饶富趣味，每一首都能历经百年的考验而不衰，英国人习惯把它当作孩子读书识字过程中不可缺失的枕边教材。童谣的语言结构比较工整、规律，吻合幼儿渴望安定和可预测性的心理需求，其次童谣短小精美，表达的内容简单，读起来朗朗上口，孩子在聆听之后，不知不觉可以跟着大声念，很容易带来满足感和成就感。童谣不仅能提高孩子的学习兴趣，还有利于培养孩子对英语节奏、韵律的敏感度。
